My latest book, Conquering Peace: From the Enlightenment to the European Union, from Harvard University Press, covers five key moments of peace-building after major conflicts that redefined the political order of Europe: the Peace of Utrecht (1713); the Congress of Vienna (1814-15); the Treaty of Versailles (1919); the birth of the European communities in the 1950s; and the foundation of the European Union by the treaty of Maastricht, after the fall of Soviet Union.
